She fits her love of writing in between being a psychologist and mum.
Jen's Story
Jennifer was born in sunny Brisbane, Australia as a child of the 80s. Yes, there was big hair, double denim and so much colour. Jennifer still loves colour, it's one of her favourite things, along with the beach, her family, Japanese food and stories - in all their forms.

Jennifer always loved writing and stories. Before she could write, she would scribble in books and ask her Mum to read back the "stories" she had written. Luckily her Mum had a great imagination. Jennifer particularly loved the creative parts of school lessons, and was encouraged by a very lovely and smart English teacher, Mrs Jane Acutt.

When Jennifer left school, she thought she should do something sensible and became a psychologist. Turns out, she loves working as a psychologist and has worked with children, young people and adults in a range of different settings. She completed her Honours (First Class) in Psychology, and Masters in Organisational Psychology at the University of Queensland. In the middle of the long road to becoming a psychologist, she started writing stories as a creative outlet. The very first picture book story she wrote, Mate and Me, was published in 2015. Since then, she has gone on to publish three more picture book stories, the latest being The Construction Site Band (2025).

Writing stories, and being part of the Australian literature community, has been an unexpected great joy for Jennifer. She regularly attends writing conferences, workshops, book launches and festivals, and has made lifelong friends in the process. Seeing children engage with her stories is absolutely the best part of this journey.

Jen lives in Brisbane with her partner and their kids, her Spoodle and a family of wild possums who act as though they own the house, and Jen and her family are annoying house guests.
